Telecommunications Specialists

One large component of civilian positions is the telecommunications field. Telecommunications Specialists in our Communications Section work in the Public Safety Answering Points (911 centers and HQ Communications). They perform duties of answering emergency calls, relaying information to uniformed officers via computers, two-way radios, telephones, and ensuring accurate communications with other agency emergency responders. The telecommunications specialists require working a rotating shift, weekends, and holidays. There are PSAP's in all three counties. A minimum of a high school diploma (or GED), computer skillls and the ability to speak clearly over the radio and telephone is required. The selection process for this position consists of computerized tests, oral interview, and background check.
The Telecommunications Specialists who work in the data communications center located in the Delaware Emergency Management Center in Smyrna, input/monitor information in the computerized system that links all the criminal justice agencies nationwide. These positions also require working a rotating shift, weekends, and holidays.
